Kota Kinabalu: More hulksters are expected to flex their muscles in the Mr Merdeka Bodybuilding Championship as the organisers had decided to open its participation to all, including those from outside Sabah, provided they had stayed in the State for at least a year.Earlier on, the event, which is jointly organised by Sabah Bodybuilding Association (SBBA) and Sabah Sports Council in conjunction with the Merdeka celebration, was only open to those who had not won any of the top three placing in any competition organised by SBBA or its affiliates.

This was confirmed by the organising spokesperson Alik Makim Wednesday.

However, the date and venue remains unchanged at Imago Shopping Mall here, which is also the main sponsor of the championship.

Prejudging is on Sept 19 from 10am to 5pm while the finale is on the next day from 2pm to 6pm where the crowd will also be entertained with live performances by local artistes.

The competition will be divided into four categories – 60kg and below, 60.1 to 65kg, 65.1 to 70kg and above 70kg.

Winners in each categories will receive RM300 cash each with medals, and stand a chance to win the grand prize of RM500 with trophy as the Champion of Champions.

The first runner-up to fifth place winner will be rewarded with RM250, RM200, RM150 and RM100 respectively plus medals.

The best poser will also be awarded with RM300 cash and trophy.

More details can be obtained from the organising secretary, Joseph Sylvester at 019-8207863 or Alik at 013-8833585.
