Indonesian jailed for threat to kill, causing hurt to woman

Kota Kinabalu: A 24-year-old Indonesian who threatened to kill a woman and caused harm to her was jailed a total of 23 months by the Magistrate's Court on Thursday.Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus handed the sentence to Ilie Esif after he pleaded guilty to the charges against him.On the first count, Ilie was jailed 16 months for threatening to kill one Ani Latula, 44, at 10am on May 19, this year at a rented house in Lorong Kembara, Kg Likas, here.

The offence, under Section 506 of the Penal Code, carries a jail term of up to two years or fine, or both, on conviction.On the second count, he was jailed seven months for causing hurt to Ani at the same place and time.The court, however, ordered Ilie to serve the jail sentences concurrently from the date of his arrest.The court heard that the incident happened because Ilie was not satisfied with Ani who asked him to sleep in the bedroom.

Ilie had punched Ani at her chest and forehead, resulting in Ani suffering injuries and bruises, and receiving three stitches on her forehead. Inspector Isfandiar Jasli prosecuted the case.Meanwhile, a 41-year-old man was charged with stealing two smartphones at a shopping mall here.

Ibrahim, who appeared before Court Registrar Rita Kunsoi, is accused of stealing the smartphones at 4.35am on Aug 17 at SenQ in Suria Sabah, here.He faces another alternative charge of having the two stolen smartphones at 8.30pm on Aug 17 at the Restoran Jamiyah, here.
