Mecca crane collapse: One M'sian confirmed dead

Kuala Lumpur: One of the eight Malaysian pilgrims listed as missing following the collapse of the crane onto the Grand Mosque in Mecca was confirmed dead Sunday.Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom said the authorities had identified the remains of Rusiah Suar, 56, from Sungkai, Perak.
He said Rusiah's remains were identified by her facial features, and the identification tag and bracelet worn by Malaysian pilgrims. "Her body will not be returned to Malaysia. She will be buried in Mecca, and funeral preparations are underway," Jamil Khir told a press conference here.

He extended his condolences to Rusiah's family on behalf of the Prime Minister, the Malaysian Government and Tabung Haji.
"We are saddened and sympathise with the family, and hope that they can remain strong and faithful throughout this test," he said.
Jamil Khir said a team, comprising 15 Tabung Haji staff and 51 medical experts, was still trying to find the remaining missing Malaysians, including from among the 108 killed in the tragedy.
The identification process, he said, would be carried out through facial recognition, health records, identification tags and bracelets, and DNA tests, if required.

"We advise all Malaysian pilgrims to wear their identification markers at all times, to ensure the congregation's safety."
Jamil said he and Tabung Haji chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim would travel to Mecca today (Monday) to oversee the search and identification process for the remaining seven pilgrims who were still missing.
Jamil Khir also expressed condolences on behalf of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and the Government to Rusiah's family members.

On the injured pilgrims, he said, all of them were expected to be able to perform Haj.
Three of them have been discharged while five are still being treated at a Saudi Arabian hospital and two at the Tabung Haji Medical Centre in Makkah. All of them are reported to be in stable condition.
