'I was told to arrest Baginda'
Kuala Lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak had given the greenlight for the police to arrest his aide Abdul Razak Baginda to assist with investigations over missing Mongolian model Altantuya Shaariibuu, said former police chief Tan Sri Musa Hassan. He said he had informed then Prime Minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, but was then told to brief Najib, who was then the Deputy Prime Minister.

"I briefed him (Abdullah) about this case and informed him who was involved in this missing persons case. At that time we did not know it was a murder case yet," he said, adding that Abdullah later told him to talk to Najib.

"When I met Najib, I told him I wanted to arrest Abdul Razak over his involvement in the missing person case.

The Deputy Prime Minister at the time told me to 'do your job'. He asked me to catch him," he said.

Musa, who was then the Inspector-General of Police, said further investigation later revealed that Altantuya was indeed murdered and Abdul Razak, along with Azilah Hadri and Sirul Azhar Umar, were accused in court for murder.

"Abdul Razak was accused of abetting. Investigations also showed there were relation between the two police officers and Abdul Razak," he said.

Abdul Razak was acquitted of murder by the High Court in 2008.

On Jan 13, the Federal Court had found both Azilah and Sirul Azhar of guilty for murdering Altantuya, sending both to the gallows.

Musa stressed that police investigation had found no evidence of Najib's involvement in the high-profile murder case.

Al Jazeera in its 101 Asia-Pacific current affairs programme titled Murder in Malaysia had alleged that Najib knew the murdered Mongolian model.
