116 probe papers opened since January, says MACC
Kota Kinabalu: A total of 116 investigation papers have been opened by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in Sabah from January to date, according to MACC State Director Dato' Hishamudin Hashim.He said of the figure, almost 70 per cent of investigations have been completed.

"Investigating papers which have been opened include the Kota Kinabalu MACC branch as well as branches in Tawau, Sandakan, Lahad Datu as well as the Operations Centre in Keningau," he said.

He explained that most of the cases investigated are based on complaints from the people.

"This shows that the people have begun to cooperate and support the roles and functions of MACC.

"This proves that the cooperation between MACC and the people has grown stronger in solving cases," he added.

According to him, MACC has also conducted various programmes to ensure the people understand MACC's functions and to ensure they continue to give full support to MACC.

"Recently, MACC held a MACC programme with the Chinese community in Tawau, Sandakan and Kudat," he said.

He said numerous activities conduced included designated targets such as non-governmental organisations, State leaders and both Federal and State civil servants.

He said this after a courtesy visit to the Head of State Tun Juhar Mahiruddin at the Istana Negeri here, on Monday.

On the reason for visit, he said, it was among activities by MACC to strengthen cooperation and support from the State towards MACC.
