BN-PH battle in next general election: Lajim
Kota Marudu: The battle in the next general election will be fought between the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Harapan (PH), said Parti Keadilan Rakyat (Keadilan) Sabah Chief Datuk Lajim Ukin.He likened the BN and newly-formed PH to two big ships.

"The BN ship is very old, with a rusty engine, holes here and there and its rudder not working good anymore, while our Pakatan ship is still brand new, strong and working perfectly," he said in his speech when officiating Keadilan's Kota Marudu division annual general meeting (AGM) here, Monday.

The AGM was held at the residence of Keadilan's Kota Marudu division head, Datuk Maijol Mahap, who is also Keadilan Sabah Secretary, at Kg Kokobuan, near here.

On smaller local political parties, Lajim, who is also Klias Assemblyman, said there are like smaller boats in a big ocean.

"These 200-horse power boats will be drowned by the waves made by the two big ships," Lajim said.

A new opposition pact called Pakatan Harapan was hatched in Kuala Lumpur on Monday, which groups together Keadilan, DAP and the newly-formed Parti Amanah Negara, a splinter group of PAS. PH's predecessor was Pakatan Rakyat, of which PAS was a member.

Lajim, who was formerly with Umno before ditching it for Keadilan more than two years ago, also reminded Sabahans of Prime Minister Dauk Seri Najib Razak's gestures that appeared to be favouring Sabah and Sarawak.

"These gestures like devolution of more power to Sabah and Sarawak, including on education, were mere ploys by the now embattled Prime Minister. Even the Pan-Borneo Highway is a question mark. It's more rhetoric than real highway. They started carrying changkols (hoes) but there is no fund yet.

"Umno is now in a critical situation. Najib is jammed, he could not move ahead. He neither could step ahead nor withdraw a step back. If he moves to the right, he would fall into a drain. And if he moves to the left, a drain also awaits him," said Lajim, adding that former premier Datuk Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad had warned that Najib could even be arrested by foreign countries if he steps on their soil now.

He was referring to the on-going investigations by few countries, including the United States and Switzerland, on the scandalous 1MDB saga, for allegedly money-laundering charges.

Meanwhile, the Kota Marudu AGM adopted 10 motions, most of which touched on Sabah's autonomy power, better development programmes, as well as empowering the State and Sabahans especially the natives.

Also in attendance were Keadilan Sabah Youth Chief Raymond Ahuar, State Woman Chief Johair Matlani, as well as former Kadamaian Assemblyman Datuk Yapin Gimpoton.
