Kota Kinabalu: City Hall (DBKK) has issued a total of 186 notices to the building owners and tenants at the Fu Yen building for littering. The notices to warn the tenants for indiscriminate dumping of rubbish was issued during an operation codenamed "Ops Kutu Sampah Fu Yen" which involved 50 personnel from various departments in the City Hall.Health and Environmental Services Department Director Robert Lipon, who led the operations, said apart from the notices the tenants were also advised to discard their domestic wastes properly.

He said they are reminded that discarding their rubbish out of the window not only cause an eyesore but may also invite pests, rodents and insects that can transmit diseases. "A bin centre had been provided by the City Hall at the ground floor for the flat tenants to discard their domestic wastes," Robert said.

"Those caught littering in the future are liable to a fine of up to RM500 and not exceeding RM5,000 under the Anti-Litter By-Laws 2005."

Meanwhile, Mayor Datuk Abidin Madingkir reminded the city residents to give their full cooperation to the City Hall in keeping the city clean.

He said they simply need to stop littering indiscriminately and discard their rubbish where they belong – in the dustbins.
