Study on district council for Tongod and Telupid

TONGOD: The Sabah State Government is studying the possibility of setting up a district council for the districts of Tongod and Telupid.Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said although Tongod has become a full district, it was still under the administration of the Kinabatangan District Council in terms of local government.He said it was the same for Telupid which was elevated from a small district to a full district this year but was under the jurisdiction of Beluran District Council.

"However, the study may take some time because there are several criteria that must be met before approval is given, not only by the state but also involving the Federal Government," he said when officiating the Tongod District Hawkers and Petty Traders Association cum Aidiladha Open House, here, Sunday.Meanwhile, Hajiji, who is also Sabah Hawkers and Petty Traders Consultative Council Chairman, urged hawkers and petty traders across the State to register themselves as members of the association in order to enjoy the various facilities and assistance extended by the Government through the association.
