7 hurt in KK express bus mishap

Kota Kinabalu: Seven passengers sustained slight injuries when the express bus they were travelling in crashed and keeled over near a drain along Jalan Tuaran-Kota Belud, Tuesday. State Civil Defence Department Director Col Mulliadi Al-Hamdi Ladin said five were sent to the Tuaran Hospital for observation while two received aid from the Civil Defence Department after they refused treatment. He identified the duo, both men, as the 63-year-old bus driver from Kg Tamalang, in Kudat, who sustained minor injuries to the neck and leg, and a 51-year-old passenger who sustained slight injuries to the finger.

"Our medical rescue vehicle manned by four personnel aided the two who declined to be sent to hospital," he said. He said early information gathered at the scene showed that the bus carrying 10 passengers and several postage items, was travelling towards the city from Kudat when it happened between 4.23pm and 5.18pm. The driver was said to have lost control of the bus when a Hilux suddenly overtook, resulting in the bus crashing near a drain. Also there to assist were personnel from the Tuaran Hospital and police.
