Kota Kinabalu: Chung Yun Khiong was the toast of the team with five gold and one silver medals as Sabah veteran athletes grabbed a total of 33 gold, nine silver and six bronze medals at the Singapore Masters Open 2015 held over the weekend despite the appalling air pollution index and marathon journey.Team leader, Aliudin Jumaat said it was one of their best ever performance in overseas championships despite of the long sleepless journey and tired bodies.

"I am really proud of their fighting spirit. The tiring journey for the seven men and nine women team started at Kota Kinabalu airport with flight to Johor delayed followed by cancellation due to the haze.

"We were forced to get new tickets to Kuala Lumpur, then traveled to Singapore by bus and we only managed to reach the championship venue two hours before the start of the game.

"It was unbelievable these athletes were able to produce their personal best under such condition."

More than 700 athletes from 15 international teams took part in the championship which is a run-up to the 2016 Asian Masters Athletics Championship where Singapore will be the host.
