Decision Oct 7 on drug trafficking case of duo

Kota Kinabalu: The High Court adjourned to Oct 7 its decision on a drug trafficking case involving two West Malaysians.Judge Ravinthran N. Paramaguru fixed the date for Lai Yam Huat, 26, and Voon Ai Win, 24, as Voon's counsel only submitted his submission on Wednesday which was scheduled for judgement of the case. Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Khuzaima Dolfatah, who stood in for DPP Mohd Radzi Shah, said the prosecution has to reply to the said submission.

Lai and Voon were jointly charged with trafficking 7,537gm of ketamine at 7pm on Dec 9, 2011 at the Customs Passenger Inspection Special Unit in Terminal 1 of the Kota Kinabalu International Airport, here.They were on Jan 13 ordered to enter their defence to the charge under Section 39B (1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act which carries the death sentence, on conviction.Both accused, who are from Penang, opted to give their evidence under oath in their defence.Lai is represented by counsel Ram Singh while Voon is represented by counsel Ramkarpal Singh.

Meanwhile, in another court, a woman from China charged with trafficking 3,492.4gm of syabu will know her fate on Oct 15. High Court Judge Datuk Nurchaya Hj Arshad fixed the date for Yu Jing following an application for another date by her counsel to submit their submission-in-reply to the prosecution's submission.

Yu Jing, 21, had on Aug 6 chosen to give her evidence under oath for her defence.She is accused of committing the offence at 11.10pm on June 22, 2014 at the Passengers' Examination Unit, Arrival Hall of Terminal 2, Kota Kinabalu International Airport.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.
