Illegals: Doubts on KL's sincerity
Papar: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) called on Deputy Prime Minister cum Home Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to expedite the implementation of the recommendations submitted by the Technical Committee of Immigrant Management on Illegal Immigrants (PTIs) in Sabah headed by Deputy Chief Minister-cum-PBS President, Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan."PBS would like to see those recommendations being acted upon as a matter of urgency. The people are beginning to be sceptical about Barisan Nasional's sincerity to address the PTI problem in Sabah because they don't see any action being taken.

"If any action is being taken, it is only right that the people are informed. Not everything needs to be kept secret from the rakyat," said Sec-Gen. Datuk Johnny Mositun. Mositun said public perception and confidence had a very big impact on people when they go to the polls.

"When the Government is more forthcoming with information and keeps the people well informed and up to date on such important issues, it will inspire trust and confidence.

"That is the way it should be. It is also the most effective way of countering negative postings on the social media by detractors and the opposition propagandists," he said.

In this regard, he said the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and other enforcement agencies should investigate the possibility of a link between present and past syndicates that enable illegals to obtain Malaysian identity documents.

While congratulating MACC on the arrest of senior Sabah National Registration Department (NRD) officers and members of a syndicate involved in providing illegals with documents, Mositun said it is equally important to trace the culprits behind the issuance of similar documents in the past that changed the demography of the State drastically.

"If there was, in fact, a link (present and past syndicates), it will be of tremendous help if and when the authorities are ready to act against those who acquired their citizenship illegally and voted in our elections," he in a statement, Monday.

Mositun who is also PBS Pantai Manis Divisional Chief said this after officially receiving 112 applications for PBS membership at Kg Labak, Kinarut, near here. Also present was Kawang PBS Division Acting Chief, Benedict Bolotol.

He said the modus operandi of the present syndicate was likely developed from the earlier syndicates, or could even be a continuation of the earlier syndicates.
