Police deny story dead girl found in biscuit box

Kota Kinabalu: Police have rubbished a post circulated over social media of the discovery of an eight-year-old girl found dead inside a biscuit box at Likas Bay near the Sabah Foundation building. The post which started making its rounds on Monday morning urged readers to circulate the message to alert those with missing children. The post came with a photo of the body of a naked child, bound and gagged, cramped inside a box.

City Police Chief ACP M. Chandra said the incident did not take place in Kota Kinabalu and that there were no reports lodged by the people of the alleged incident.

It was learnt that the incident actually took place in Jakarta, Indonesia. On that note, he reminded the people not to spread false information as it would lead to unnecessary worry. He said action would be taken under Section 233 of the Communication and Multimedia Act against those responsible for circulating false information.

Several false information were also circulated via social media over the past months, with the latest of an alleged kidnapping of a girl in Kolombong, here.

In June, a message of alleged characters turning up at the front gate of houses while claiming to be on utility inspection duty despite home owners' reluctance were also circulated via social media.

Photos of a man with deep slash wounds to the back of his head allegedly after being attacked in Telipok Ria here also went viral over social media the same month.
