Kota Kinabalu: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Sabah Information Chief, Terrence Siambun challenged United PasokMomogun KadazanDusun Organisation (Upko) to direct its assemblymen to move a motion for the re-issuance of a new Sabah identity cards in the coming State Legislative Assembly sitting. He urged Upko Secretary-General Datuk Donald Mojuntin to take up the challenge in response to the latter's statement on Monday that Upko had submitted its recommendations to the Technical Committee of Immigrant Management in Sabah, including recalling, verifying and re-issuing all Sabahan ICs or MyKads to genuine Sabahans only. Siambun said if such motion is tabled by a government member, it surely will be passed by the Speaker for debate and call for a motion of vote."I, as the Moyog assemblyman will without hesitation support such motion if it is tabled by any of the Upko assemblymen as the re-issuance of a new Sabah identity card is an inherent right of Sabah as a founding partner of the Federation of Malaysia.

"Sabah can administer such re-issuance of Sabah's national identification because Sabah itself administer the recording and registration of births."It is now imperative more than ever that such motion by the Barisan Nasional (BN) assemblymen from Upko to just not talk but to submit a motion for such re-issuance once and for all," he said in a statement here.Siambun said PKR would also like to see how many BN assemblymen will support such motion, assuring that the Opposition will support such noble act to save Sabah, especially with the massive abuses on the identity cards in Sabah and now in West Malaysia, too.On the request of Mojuntin on the re-issuance of a new identity cards for Sabah, Siambun said the issue had been repeatedly asked for by the opposition and by some members of the Government.

"While I understand that the BN government will ignore the calls made by the Opposition to re-issue the identity cards for Sabah (as had been in the past), I am surprised to still read that Upko, which is a direct member of the BN coalition, was pleading for their 'own Government'."I was always under the impression that voting for BN would mean bringing immediate and instant change for all as they (the Government) were the administrator of the day," he said. Siambun said it seems that a component party of BN is almost begging to be heard despite them having all the resources of the government in their hands.
