Kota Kinabalu: The contract of former Harimau Muda player Rozaimi Abd Rahman will not be renewed when it expires, a Sabah FA (Safa) spokesman said, Wednesday."We do not intend to renew his contract when it is up but we are, in fact, still paying his salary," he said.

He was clarifying a report in Express Sport, Wednesday, headlined "Rhinos Axe Rozaimi".

According to the Safa spokesman, it was a wrong choice of word. Express Sport regrets any inconvenience caused to Safa on Rozaimi, if this was indeed the case.

Rozaimi had on Tuesday confirmed he will no longer play for Sabah next season with news that his contract will not be renewed for the coming season.

He said he respects the decision by Safa as he knew he had failed to live up to expectations due to his nagging injuries.

He also said he has received many offers to date and is most likely to join a Super League team whom he claimed has offered to bear the costs for his recovery process and are willing to wait for him to regain full fitness.

Meanwhile, newly appointed Rhinos coach Azraai Khor Abdullah wished the player all the best. He said he was unable to see Rozaimi since he arrived here a week ago and was earlier hoping to meet the player face to face and get to know him better.

"Rozaimi is a big name before I came. I heard a lot about him being a national player."And as far as I know, the whole season he has been in the injury list and also involved in a car accident.

"It is better to let him go and I wish him all the best."
