Heed Rulers' call, says Lajim
Kota Kinabalu: The Federal Government should seriously heed the call by the Malay Rulers to speed up investigation on 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) for the sake of public order and interest as well as for political and economic stability in the country.Making the call, Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Sabah Chairman Datuk Seri Lajim Ukin said intervention by the Malay Rulers into the 1MDB issue signifies their seriousness and concern for the wellbeing of the people and nation.

He said PKR Sabah appreciated and upheld the proclamation by the Malay Rulers in a statement released by the Keeper of the Rulers' Seal, Datuk Seri Syed Danial Syed Ahmad, after the pre-council meeting of the Conference of Rulers at Istana Negara, on Tuesday.

The 239th meeting of the Conference of Rulers was scheduled for two days from Wednesday.

"Going against the proclamation and wants of the Malay Rulers or refusing to answer their call is also tantamount to not respecting the constitution of the Malay Rulers in our country.

"Hence, it would be best for the Federal Government to uphold the proclamation by the Malay Rulers," Lajim said.

He said this to reporters after chairing a meeting of the Political Bureau of Sabah under PKR's State Leadership Council at its headquarters, here, Thursday.

He was commenting on a statement that the Malay Rulers wanted the government to complete the investigation into 1MDB as soon as possible and take 'appropriate stern action' against all found to be implicated.

In the statement, the Rulers stressed that all concerned should extend 'real and sincere' cooperation so that the investigation achieves its objectives.

They also said that the finding of the investigation must be reported comprehensively and in a transparent manner so the people will be convinced of the sincerity of the government, which shall not all conceal facts and truth.

Lajim, who is also Klias Assemblyman, said the proclamation by the Malay Rulers was very timely as it could restore the people's confidence and trust in the present ruling government as well as heeding the call could also clear the Prime Minister's name.

Therefore, he said the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak as the head of government should seriously heed the call and take necessary action against those found implicated in the 1MDB issue.

On upcoming tabling of National Budget 2016, Lajim said the Federal government should provide a huge allocation for the development of Sabah in tandem with Najib's promise as well as increase poverty eradication programmes in the State which has been burdened by the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and rising prices of goods nowadays following economic uncertainties.

He said the Federal government also needs to provide big allocations on programmes that could lessen the burden of the people in the country, particularly the low-income group including farmers, and fishermen.

"I am also wondering if the Federal government could afford to provide a good budget for the country considering the present economic situations that are uncertain with the falling of the ringgit and drop in commodity prices.

"The National Budget 2016 should not only look pretty on paper or contain sweet promises to make the people happy… the content of the budget must be assured to be viably implemented and meet the expectations and needs of the people in the country," he said.

This is because the people are already feeling the pinch of the present economy, he said.
