It's back to making police report again?

PETALING JAYA: The National Registration Department (NRD) is making a police report mandatory again for those who apply for replacement of lost MyKad, four years after dropping the requirement.Since March 1, 2011, those who lost their MyKad can apply for a new one without producing a police report.According to the report, it is learnt that effective Oct 15, the government intends to go back to the old procedure of requiring those who lose their MyKad whether due to natural disasters, negligence or victimisation (robbery or theft) to produce a police report before they can apply for replacement of the lost identity card.

Apart from having to produce a police report, those who lose their MyKad due to negligence will have to pay a processing fee of RM100 for the first time; RM200 for the second time; and RM300, the third on top of the RM10 application fee.It said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also home minister, is expected to make an announcement on the measure, which was given the thumbs up during the Cabinet meeting on March 31 this year, within days.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

An NRD official confirmed to China Press on Tuesday that a dry run of the "new" measure is being carried out in some states.The official, who was not named in the report, said the measure is reintroduced to prevent lost cards from being misused, such as to open accounts with telecommunication companies.
