PORT DICKSON: A jealous husband, who suspected his wife was having an affair and viciously slashed her with a parang in Taman Port Dickson Utama, was high on drugs at the time. The husband and his friend, aged 24 and 26, respectively, were picked up within 30 minutes after the incident took place around 6.30pm on Sunday.

Port Dickson police chief Supt Baharudin Mustapha said the suspects were high on drugs.

When they were charged, it was for causing grievous hurt with a dangerous weapon, but the victim has since died.

"Both suspects tested positive for drugs and initial investigations revealed the motive was jealousy," he said.

Police are still looking for another suspect.

A one-minute video of the incident, captured from a closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera at the victim's house, went viral on social media.

The video showed the suspects, one covered with a black mask, repeatedly slashing the 24-year-old victim, while her mother tried in vain to stop the attackers with her slipper and a broomstick.

A child was seen crying, running and hugging the victim's 56-year-old mother during the attack. Neighbours were also seen running into their homes.

After 30 seconds into the video, the recording showed a white Perodua MyVi stopping in front of the house and one of the attackers got into the car.

The victim's husband, who was walking towards the car, turned back and continued slashing her before fleeing the scene.

Baharudin said immediately after that, the victim's mother contacted the police and the suspects were arrested at Mambau toll plaza.

"Police trailed the Produa MyVi from Lukut. Upon realising the police car, the suspect started speeding towards the toll booth and crashed into the barriers.

"They were arrested. We seized two parangs from the car."

Several statements have been recorded from the victim's family and neighbours. The victim worked as a clerk at a hotel here while her husband worked for another in Seremban.

Husband K. Saravanan and his friend Ahamad Mohd Latif were charged in the Sessions Court with slashing Saravanan's wife D. Megala repeatedly with machetes.

Both men were denied bail by Judge Kamarudin Kamsun.

They were charged with another person still at large. If convicted they can be jailed up to 20 years but this was before the victim died.

Earlier when pleading for bail, Saravanan, who works in a hotel, said he also had to provide for his parents and did not have any criminal record.

Labourer Ahamad also said he was providing for his parents.

Kamarudin fixed Nov 13 for the case to be mentioned again.
