Keningau: Upko is not demanding for anything more from what has been agreed upon in the 1963 Malaysia Agreement but it will not settle for anything less, either.Acting President Datuk Seri Madius Tangau said this was the official stand of the United Pasokmomogun Kadazandusun Murut Organisation (Upko) on the autonomy issue for Sabah and Sarawak.

"We also call for a full implementation of the 20-Point or even if it has been implemented it must be done so properly," said Tangau who is Science, Technology and Innovation Minister.

A memorandum on Upko's stand on autonomy for Sabah and Sarawak has been submitted to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak during the Malaysia Day celebration recently.

"There are voices out there saying Upko is not doing anything to fight for the people, particularly the momogun. In fact, this has been our struggle all this while," said Tangau at the Upko Keningau people service programme in Sento Hotel here Sunday.

According to him, Upko was doing its fighting with diplomacy by going through the right channel and not confrontational.

Nonetheless, he said the Prime Minister was now listening even more as reflected with his recent decision to delegate powers of some the Federal agencies to the State Government.

On another note, Tangau reiterated the call for members to put in more efforts to gain new membership and increased the party's membership base of 122,000 to 300,000 before the 14th General Election.

At the same event, he welcomed Dr Arnold Puyok, a lecturer from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) and a member of the think-tank Seeds into Upko together with 491 other new members.

Also on hand were vice presidents, Datuk Seri Wences Anggang, Datuk Ewon Ebin, Datuk Dr Marcus Mojigoh, Datuk Bobbey Suan, Datuk Masiung Banah, secretary general Datuk Donald Mojuntin, Kuala Penyu Assemblyman, Limus Jury, Youth Chief, Arthur Sen, Wanita Chief, Datin Seri Dr Jainah Sintian and supreme council members.
