Muhy says unaware if he is one of the rebels
Kuala Lumpur: Umno Deputy President Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said he is unsure if he is one of the seven leaders currently under probe by the party. "I am unaware of it. I have just read about it," he said in a one line remark at Parliament lobby when asked if he was one of the seven who faced suspension from the party.

Umno secretary general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor had said seven Umno members were being investigated for allegedly criticising the party openly.

He added that a committee was tasked with investigating the matter and that it would be concluded soon.

Adnan had said there was a code of ethics which members had to adhere to, and that Umno was 'sick and tired of some of the members who come up with statements' that were not supposed to be meant for public consumption.

Muhyiddin said he is in the dark over the identities of the seven leaders.

Recently, Umno members led by former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad led a call for party president Datuk Seri Najib Razak's resignation as Prime Minister.

Dr Mahathir has been criticising Najib over his alleged mismanagement of the country, from alleged financial irregularities in state-owned investment firm 1Malaysia Development Berhad to the use of new detention law Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma) against critics.

Muhyiddin, who was Najib's deputy, and former minister Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal have also been critical of him. Both were dropped from Cabinet in a late July reshuffle.

Meanwhile, Minister in Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Dr Shahidan Kassim denied that there are plans to oust Muhyiddin.

Shahidan was asked by reporters to respond to claims by Sungai Besar Umno division chief Jamal Md Yunos stating that many Umno division chiefs were planning to remove Muhyiddin.

"He should inform the party if he has proof to back his claims," said Shahidan who also expressed his displeasure over Jamal's past actions of organising rallies.

"Umno is not a party of gangsters. We champion our faith, race and country," he said.

Shahidan was also asked why the Umno supreme council meeting scheduled to be held today was postponed.

Rumours were rife that the postponements were done as an effort to isolate Muhyiddin.
