Woman charged over facebook posting ridiculing traffic cops
Kota Kinabalu: A 29-year-old government servant with the National Anti-Drug Agency was charged, Monday, with making various allegations against traffic police in Facebook.Norita Salamah Zaman pleaded not guilty before Sessions Court Judge Azreena Aziz to both charges against her.

On the first charge, Norita is accused of allegedly posting the words, "Trafik Papar cari duit cara keji…Blh2 sman laju d kwsn lorong memotong jln bongawan tu. Laju 90km/h..,sdh lah x sign board had laju, gulung blik la tu jln 3 hala. Gila ka mau suru org memotong tp laju 90 ja d sna, siap ada signboard LORONG MEMOTONG tp xblh laju 90.," (The traffic police in Papar making side income through illegal means…can issue speeding ticket on overtaking lane in Jalan Bongawan you can drive only 90km/h speed…no sign board for speed limit, might as well just get rid the three lanes, are you crazy asking people to overtake with speed of 90km/h? There is a signboard 'Lorong Memotong' but cannot over 90km/h speed.)

She allegedly posted the words at https://www.facebook.com/profile.php? Rdr=p&id=1782440983 on her Facebook account at 9pm on April 8, 2014 at a house in Taman Sri Panglima, Beaufort.

On the second charge, Norita allegedly wrote the words, "Jaga2 kmu, blum smua rkyt Malaysia dpt br1m… klu pakai tali pinggang keledar tu, kasi lurus btul2.nti kena sman sbb begulung tu tali pinggang keledar," (beware all of you, not all Malaysians had received br1m, if you wear safety seat belt, make sure use it properly otherwise you will get a summon for using tangled safety seat belt) on the same account on the said day and time. She was charged under Section 233(1)(a) of the Multimedia and Communication Act 1998 and punishable under Section 233(3) of the same Act which carries a fine of up to RM5,000 or a jail term of up to three years, or both, on conviction.

Azreena fixed Dec 7 for case management and Apr 4-6 next years for trial as well as released Norita on a bail of RM5,000 with RM2,500 deposited in two local sureties.

Earlier, Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Chow Siang Kong who was assisted by DPP Husna Abd Halim proposed bail of RM5,000 on each charge.

However, counsel Luke Ressa Balang together Dominic Chew representing Norita asked for the bail to be reduced to a sum of RM2,000 on the grounds that Norita is still working.

According to Balang, Norita who has a child has been worked in the agency for eight years.

The prosecution expected to call 10 witnesses during the hearing.
