Number of UPSR top achievers increase by 1.17pc in KK

Kota Kinabalu: The number of top performers in the Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) examination in the district this year increased by 1.17 per cent from last year.According to Kota Kinabalu District Education Officer, Bad Hamid Musli on Wednesday, a total of 405 pupils from national (SK) and Chinese-Type national (SJKC) scored straight As, 71 pupils more than in 2014.

A total of 5,889 Year Six pupils at National Schools and National Chinese-Type Schools in the district sat for their UPSR examination from Sept 8-10 this year compared to only 5,856 UPSR candidates last year.

Another improvement for the district is the overall achievement where a total of 3,440 pupils or 58.39 per cent passed the examination, a slight bump (+0.28 per cent) from last year's 3,407 pupils or 58.18 per cent.

The Average District Grade (GPD) for Kota Kinabalu schools also increased by 0.06 to 2.42 in 2015 compare to 2.48 last year and Bad Hamid stated that the GPD achieved this year is the best achievement in the last five years.

Among the ten best National schools in the district are SK Sri Gaya, SK St. Agnes, SK St. Francis Convent, SK Tanjung Aru 2, SK Pangkalan TLDM, SK Mutiara, SK Stella Maris, SK St. Catherine, SK Kolombong and SK Tanjung Aru 1.

The top Chinese-Type National schools are SJKC Shan Tao, SJKC Lok Yuk Likas, SJKC St. James, SJKC Chung Hwa Kg Air, SJKC Chung Hwa Likas and SKC Anglo Chinese while the top under-enrolled schools (SKM) are SK Talungan, SK Tombongon, SK Kokol, SK Natai, SK Tampulan, SK Babagon Toki, SK Poring Poring, SK Kebayau, SK Kerongou and SK Ruminding.

Meanwhile, Bad Hamid announced improvements in the Average Subjects Grade (GPMP) with the highest improvement being in Science (SK), Mathematics (SK) and Bahasa Malaysia (SJKC) while Science (SJKC) registered a 0.09 drop compared to last year.

He also congratulated several schools for achieving the Key Performance Index (KPI) set by the State Education Department of School Average Grades (GPS) below 1.99, namely SK Sri Gaya, SK St. Agnes, SK St. Francis Convent, SK Mutiara, SJKC Shan Tao, SK Kokol and SK Natai.

Towards this end, he reminded parents as well as candidates that the application to recheck the papers must be done 30 days after the date of announcement and submitted directly to the Examination Board, Education Ministry (u.p: Unit UPSR) before Dec 16.

The recheck forms can be acquired at the respective schools or nearby District Education Office.
