High number of PR applicants

Kota Kinabalu: The number of people seeking Permanent Resident (PR) status in Sabah is very high and applicants have to go through a long waiting period due to the process of screening, thorough checking and verifying the necessary document for the application.The Chief Minister's Department said this in response to a question by MCA Luyang Assemblyman Dr Hiew King Cheu who asked the Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman on the possibility of speeding up the approval for PR of foreign and West Malaysian wives or husbands of Sabahans residing in Sabah.The Department said those who were given PR status by the Sabah Government is very limited and is not a right which can be claimed by any individual who are not Sabahan.

However, the Department assured that it would review and consider various ways to accelerate the approval of relevant applications. Hiew urged the State and Federal Government to work out a speedy process on the approvals.
