Kota Kinabalu: A Filipina who was charged with illegal entry admitted that she is from the Philippines. However, Dalina Tampara's counsel informed Sessions Court Judge Azreena Aziz that she has a confirmation letter from the Native Court in Semporna that she is a Bajau Laut.

When the charge was read to Dalina in the Bajau Laut language, Dalina said she comes from Philippines.

Counsel Datu Baginda Datu Laja told the court that he had received a copy of the confirmation letter but not the original.

Prosecuting Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police Sabrina Jinius informed the court that the prosecution needed to verify the letter with the Immigration Department.

She said once they receive the outcome from the department, the prosecution would also need to refer the case to the Deputy Public Prosecutor's office.

Azreena fixed Dec 14 for mention and ordered Dalina remanded further pending the date.

In the same court, four Filipinos were jailed four months and ordered given a stroke of the cane each for entering the State illegally.

Dani Aidam, Muid Isa, Gai Kali and Yustinus Mbete, aged between 26 and 35, pleaded guilty to entering the State without any valid documents.

They were arrested after failing to produce their documents during an operation conducted in the city between Nov 14 and 17 this year.

After serving their jail sentence, the foreigners were ordered referred to the Immigration Department.
