Kuala Lumpur: Parkson Holdings Bhd's pre-tax profit for the third quarter ended Sept 30, 2015 doubled to RM105.014 million from RM50.053 million in the same period a year ago. Revenue increased to RM933.389 million from RM848.618 million previously, it said in a filing to Bursa Malaysia Tuesday.

"For the three months ended Sept 30, 2015, the group's retailing division registered a revenue growth of eight per cent to RM906 million and an operating loss of RM25 million," it said.

Parkson also noted that its Malaysia's Parkson operations reported a negative same store sales growth of 15 per cent for the quarter under review due to weak consumer sentiments following the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax and the weakening ringgit.

The department store operator said that the increase in group's revenue was mainly contributed by the food and beverage businesses following strong consumer spending during the Muslim festive seasons in Malaysia and Indonesia.

Parkson expects to improve its revenue in the next quarter in view of the year-end festivities and holiday season as it wraps up the financial year ending Dec 31, 2015. – Bernama
