Kuala Lumpur: National ace and former world number one Datuk Lee Chong Wei remains in the right path to compete in 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics in Brazil after moving up to third in the world ranking issued by the Badminton World Federation (BWF), Thursday. His ranking in the BWF list rose after winning back-to-back titles in China and Hong Kong in recent weeks.

Chong Wei who returned to competition in May following an eight-month suspension by the BWF after a doping offence, saw his ranking fall from world number one to 180.

Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) technical director, Morten Hansen Frost said Chong Wei rise up the ranking list was extraordinary as he was able to move from 180 to third in the world, in just less than six months.

"I feel Chong Wei's performance was wonderful...that was fantastic he has won three tournaments in a row.

"It is good for badminton's future in the country. It's just confirms my believe...on the first day I was here, I said I believe Chong Wei will do it," he told reporters at the Welfare Association of Wives of Ministers and Deputy Ministers (Bakti) Junior Badminton Tournament 2015 at the Sports Arena in Sentosa, here, Thursday.

Commenting on the applicants for the post of men's singles coach, Frost said he would not be able to reveal the names yet but admitted that list comprised local and foreign coaches.

"I have not discussed with Chong Wei yet about the coach...as I said, there are options on my list. Hopefully I can select it by end of December," he said. – Bernama
