Kota Kinabalu: A total of 15,791 films of various titles without the required 'B' certificates, including pornographic movies, in DVD format were disposed of by the city police here, on Thursday. Out of the figure, a total of 15,611 are films without the 'B' certificate, while 180 are pornographic movies.

Acting City Police DSP Yong Thien Foh said a majority of the DVDs were seized during raids on shopping complexes here, adding that the swoops on fake DVDs were done between a period of seven years from 2008.

The raids also led to the arrest of 12 people comprising locals and IMM13 cardholders, aged between 15 and 40, including four women.

"All those nabbed have been convicted, namely two under Section 5(1) (a) of the Film Censorship Act 2002 for pornographic movies, while the rest were charged under Section 18(4) (a) of the same Act for not having the required 'B' certificate," he said.

He said the DVDs worth about RM126,328 were disposed of after an order for disposal by the Magistrate's Court on June 28 this year.
