Fined for reckless driving causing death of daughter

Tawau: A 43-year-old local was fined RM5,000 in default seven months' jail for reckless driving which resulted in the death of his 16-year-old daughter.Johan William @ Johan Abdullah pleaded guilty before Magistrate Mohd Harith Mohd Mazlan to committing the offence at 5.10pm on April 10 this year at Km 54, Jalan Tawau-Kunak, here.According to the facts of the case, on that day Johan was heading to Tawau from Lahad Datu on his 4WD vehicle together with his wife, a son, two daughters and his uncle when he lost control his car which then entered the opposite lane and collided with a lorry coming from the opposite direction. One of the passengers, identified as one of Johan's daughters, Nur Asmira, was pronounced dead during treatment at the emergency ward in Tawau Hospital and two other passengers suffered serious injuries. Johan's wife, the lorry driver and his attendant suffered light injuries.Inspector Zakariah Kirinu prosecuted.
