Forestry Department champions

Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Forestry Department (Hutan) dominated the 11th Chief Minister's Department Goodwill Games title during the Games' closing ceremony held at Padang Merdeka near here on Saturday.The department comfortably defeated its rivals by a huge margin, hauling in 38 gold, 25 silver and 15 bronze medals from a total of 18 sports competed.

City Hall (DBKK) came in second 20 gold medals behind the champions with 18 gold, 20 silver and 17 bronze medals collected while Sabah Land and Survey Department (Tankur) finished in third place with 15 gold, 19 silver and 22 bronze medals.

The rest of the result saw the Chief Minister's Department (JKM) Perdana obtaining 3 gold, 7 silver and 16 bronze medals while coming in last place were Sabah Islamic Affairs Department (Jheains) with 2 gold, 5 silver and 6 bronze medals.

The Games' Challenge Trophy and other prizes were presented to the champions, Forestry Department contingent by Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Musa Aman.

In his speech, Musa praised JKM for accomplishing a good job in organising the Games and having the initiative to initiate such activity as it is important for any government staffs to be active in sports in order to be healthy, physically and mentally. "Through this sports meet too, we can foster the spirit of teamwork and unity among our co-workers in trying to achieve success.

"With this, the performance and efficiency of government sectors' services will improve, thus will contribute towards the successes of the state's development plans," he said.

He added that the state government will continue to support and encourage sports activities as it will contribute physical and mental health improvements as well as unity and harmony among the multi-ethnic communities in the country especially Sabah.

Meanwhile, City Mayor, Datuk Abidin Madingkir thanked the State government for contributing RM100,000 to DBKK to help the organisation of the JKM Goodwill Games 2015.

"As the host, the amount given was merely enough for us to hold this sports meet and I am thankful to all the contingents participating as they each have contributed RM5,000 to support our Goodwill Games," he said.

The 2015 edition kicked off on November 15 while the Land and Survey Department (Tankur) will be the host for the bi-annual Games in 2017.

Also present at the ceremony were JKM Goodwill Games Organising Chairman cum State Development Deputy Secretary, Datuk Joseph Yuntavid, Forestry Department Director, Datuk Sam Mannan, DBKK Operations Director, Datuk Yeo Boon Hai and other government officials.
