Lauretta, Reduan win Century Race

Kota Kinabalu: Reduan Yusop from Brunei and local lass Lauretta Eva Adrian clinched the Road Men and Women titles in the 3rd edition of the CAKK Century Race which was held at the Kota Kinabalu Sports Complex on Sunday.Reduan finished his race with a time of 2 hours 21 minutes 51.11 seconds to pip Abdul Hadrie Marsidi (2:22:33.18) for the title while Johnie Ngongoloy (2:22:34.19) finished in third.

National rider Lauretta riding for GP team won her title with recorded a time of 1:38:39.70 ahead of Chung Moi Ling (1:38:41.72) and Gelnys Tan Jia Jia (1:38:43.73).

A total of eight events were held and Brunei team also claimed the Road Junior title through Amiruddin Mohd Amir (2:02:42.10) with the second and third place went to Harrison Then Sze Ming (2:02:42.11) and Md Hamizan Herman (2:02:42.11).

It was a photo finish in the MTB Junior race where all four riders crossing the line with the same time of 1:38:35.71 and the top three winners went to Lin Woei Juh, Mohd Faizikry Jumah and Kenny Mak Ket Siong.

In the MTB Women Veteran race, Michelle Chung Moi Lin (2:02:03.01) was the first to finish followed by Fang Suk Fong (2:07:16.58) and Brenda Ho Chiew Hiang (2:1055.93).

Arjali Ahmad (2:10:04.85) successfully defended his MTB Men Veteran 40 and above title beating his closest rival Yamin Ali (2:10:17.85) with Rayim Sidik (2:13:33.12) in third while the Road veteran race was won by Jaminuddin Ismail followed by Shahnon Basman and Abdul Halim Abdul Aziz.

Nearly 900 riders took part in the event which was organised by Cycling Association Kota Kinabalu (CAKK) and Vice President Johnny Chong said they were very pleased with the record turnout.

"Last year there were only 500 plus participants and the turnout this time was overwhelming with many joining in at the very last minute.

"It was a very successful event and DBKK Director Datuk Yeo Boon Hai also joined in, finishing within the cut off time too in the Men 72km Veteran Open while Sandakan Municipal Council President Datuk James Wong was the oldest rider at age 60 to finish the race.

Johnny also thanked all Government agencies, sponsors and all the cyclists for their support in staging the event.
