Lajim wants separate PKR Sabah, S'wak congresses
SHAH ALAM: A PKR leader caused a short stir during the party's 11th national congress here Sunday when he demanded separate congresses to be held in Sarawak and Sabah in the future.Sabah PKR Chairman Datuk Lajim Ukin (pic) made the request during his closing speech Sunday morning. His proposal was met with loud cheers and from the Sabahan and Sarawakian delegates.

About 100 delegates were also seen standing and holding up placards to support Lajim's suggestion.

"If we are allowed to hold our own congress in Sabah and Sarawak, I am confident that we will win more seats in the general election and capture Putrajaya.

"I will leave the mechanism (of the separate congresses) to the party leadership," Lajim said to a resounding applause.

Lajim said separate congresses should be held in Sabah and Sarawak to dispel the notion that the party leadership in the peninsular was the "dominant force".

He said there was a perception that PKR's Sabah and Sarawak chapters would be under the complete control of the party's central leadership, should the opposition wrest control of Putrajaya in the next general election.

Meanwhile, PKR Vice-President Darrell Leiking renewed calls for Barisan Nasional's 47 Members of Parliament in Sabah and Sarawak to leave the ruling coalition and form a separate coalition.

He said this would not only cause the Federal government to collapse, but also force BN to strike a new and better deal with the Sabah and Sarawak governments.

The suggestion was first made by PKR President Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail on Saturday, who claimed the Federal Government had failed to honour the agreement made with the two states during the formation of Malaysia.

She had said "Gagasan Sabah and Sarawak" could negotiate a new deal with BN and Pakatan Harapan to make the best political and economic offer to the people of Sabah and Sarawak.
