Semporna: The construction of the bridge linking Bum Bum to the mainland is still under the State Cabinet's consideration, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman.He said, the Government had never denied any development plan for the State but insisted that all plans will be carried out based on priorities.

In fact, each decision made is based on discussion and agreement with the rest of the State Cabinet and not an individual decision.

"The Government thinks that other necessities must be given precedence such as road, water, electricity, jetty and sports complex which will benefit the majority of the people in the district.

We take into consideration balanced development which is fair and unbiased," he said during the Communal Grant handing over ceremony and ground-breaking ceremony for the district's sports complex here.

Musa denied allegations by irresponsible people who said there is an element of bureaucracy that neglected the people in the district.

"The government always pays attention to all the districts and conducts discussions related to the development for the people. We will get reports and proposals from all assemblymen on what is needed in each of their constituencies, although we will implement all things according to priorities and needs," he said.

Meanwhile, 745 households benefitted from the communal grants involving 5,180 acres in Mount Pock and Nagos.

A total of 1,750 acres were distributed to 336 households, each receiving five acres for Nagos and eight acres each for 409 beneficiaries in Mount Pock involving 3,430 acres.

Musa said the Government takes seriously the welfare of the people and works hard to eradicate extreme poverty in the State especially among the rural communities.

"We do not want to see the natives of this country marginalised because of lack of land to build a house or to cultivate for farming. The Government has never practised favouritism in the granting of lands. But sometimes, the approval process takes time to ensure that all requirements are complied with," he said.

He also expressed satisfaction that the people in Mount Pock and Nagos are natives to the land who had cultivated the land for generations and thus deserve to be given the land.

To ensure that the land is not transferred to others or sold, he said, the government had agreed to give the land to them even though it had been gazetted as forest reserves.

Musa also said that Sabah has the most number of sports complex compared to other states, proving that the government provides balanced and equal infrastructure to all districts.
