Tawau take Muaythai title

Kota Kinabalu: Tawau were crowned overall champion in the inaugural State Inter-District Muaythai Championship which ended at the Kota Kinabalu Sports Complex on Sunday.They collected six gold, six silver and five bronze medals to pip Kota Kinabalu for the title. Kota Kinabalu won five gold, 10 silver and five bronze medals with Papar in third place with five gold and four bronze medals.A total of 25 categories were held in the two-day event organised by Sabah Muaythai Association and its president Hj. Nazri Hj. "It will be a very hectic schedule next year with many competitions such as the Malaysia Cup Muaythai, Malaysia Muaythai League, Schools and Junior National Championship, National Pro Ranking Championship, National Inter-Clubs Championship, National Championship between public and private institutes of higher learnings as well as the Borneo Cup where Sabah will play host to Sarawak, Labuan, Brunei and Kalimantan."Nazri also disclosed that at the moment, the state body have 10 districts namely Putatan, Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran, Ranau, Penampang, Sandakan, Beaufort, Tawau, Papar and Sipitang who have registered with the Sports Commissioners and urged others to follow suit so that they can take part in the annual event.
