Bombed fish seized in Semporna

Semporna: Five kilos of bombed fish and two explosives were confiscated during a special task operation conducted off the Samar-Samar waters here, on Wednesday. Sabah Marine Police Commander ACP Mohamad Madun said the seizure was made after a team stopped a boat for inspection at about 4.30pm. He said two men on the boat jumped into the sea and fled as the team approached the boat.

"The boat, its engine, several equipment, explosive and fish were all valued at RM4,350," he said. Several cases of fish-bombing activities have been reported in the State over last year. Among them was the death of a boy who was killed and four others were injured when a homemade fish bomb exploded in their house at a water village squatter settlement in Kg. Hidayat here, in December last year.There was also the seizure of 710kg of suspected bombed fish at Pulau Gaya off Semporna during an operation conducted by the marine police in a separate incident where two Bajau men, aged 20 and 25, were arrested and explosives believed to be for fish bombing were seized in the operation.

A total of 70kg of suspected bombed fish were also seized in two separate raids off the Singgahmata waters in Semporna.Fish-bombing activities were also detected in Kota Belud in August, resulting in the arrests of three men.
