Four illegals in premises: Woman fined RM20,000

Kota Kinabalu: A 59-year-old woman was on Wednesday fined a total of RM20,000 for allowing four illegals to stay in her premises.Amelia Ajun pleaded guilty before Sessions Court Judge Azreena Aziz to permitting the four Filipinas, aged between 18 and 45, without valid documents to stay at her restaurant in Keningau on Dec 3, 2015 at 3pm.Amelia was fined RM5,000 in default two months' jail on each illegal immigrant she allowed to stay at the said place.ADVERTISEMENT The offence under Section 55E(2) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 provides for a fine of between RM10,000 and RM50,000 or jail term of up to a year, or both, on conviction.In applying for a lenient sentence, Amelia, who was not represented, informed the court that it was her first offence and promised to not repeat the offence.However, Prosecuting Officer Hamisah Puteh from the Immigration Department asked for a deterrent sentence on the grounds that such cases were nowadays very rampant.In another case, a 27-year-old man was ordered to enter his defence on a charge of armed gang robbery.ADVERTISEMENT Sessions Court Judge Indra Ayub made the decision on Mohd Khairul Fazli Mohd Zaini after ruling that the prosecution had established a prima facie case against Mohd Khairul.Mohd Khairul, allegedly armed with a machete, robbed a Pakistani of RM1,000 belonging to the Man Trading sundry shop in Kg Pogunon, Penampang at 5pm on Sept 27, 2014.
