British climber carried to base by response team

Ranau: A Briton who sprained his ankle after falling while climbing Mount Kinabalu had to be brought down half way by Supporting Rescue Officers (PBB) from the Mountain Search And Rescue (Mosar), Monday afternoon.Ranau Fire and Rescue Chief, Jimmy Lagung said Imran Ahmed Syed, 43, fell while climbing with his group. "At about 2.50pm our Mosar unit 1 was moving while monitoring the last group of climbers for the day and studying changes of landscape which occur along the track due to the dry season.ADVERTISEMENT "The weather was misty with drizzle as early as 11am. When the unit arrived at the Paka Hut (Kilometre 5.4), the Mountain Guide informed us that one climber need to be helped to reach Layang-Layang Checkpoint."We were informed that the climber concerned fell when they were at Mempening Hut (Km 3.3) but did not inform the guide about his injury and went on with the climb."As Imran reached Villosa hut (Km 5), he complained of extreme pain in his left leg, although still wanted to continue the climb. The victim and the group continued until they reached Paka Hut where his pain became unbearable."That's when the victim asked the guide to bring him down to the Layang-Layang Checkpoint. Two Mosar personnel then escorted Imran to Layang-Layang Checkpoint, where he was carried down to Timpohon Gate on a stretcher," he said.Jimmy said, rescuers had a EMRS vehicle standby at the Timpohon gate which transported the victim to Ranau Hospital.
