Kuala Lumpur: Police have installed the Self-Monitoring Analytics Reporting Technology (Smart) Lock-up system at 58 lock-up centres nationwide. The system, aimed at improving security at the detention centres, enables better monitoring of detainees for quick response in cases where untoward incidents are detected.Federal Police Management Department Director Datuk Zulkifli Abdullah said the Smart Lock-up system is set to detect unusual movements in lock-up cells as well as at other areas inside a detention centre.

He said an unusual movement will trigger the alarm at the centre's control room, alerting policemen on duty to conduct immediate checks."Most police lock-ups are already equipped with CCTVs, but they only provide footages which require policemen on sentry duty to focus on the camera monitors."But with Smart Lock-up, we have an intelligent system which will alert our personnel of unusual movements thus prompting them to conduct checks," he told reporters during a press conference at Jinjang Centralised Lock-up Centre, here, earlier Wednesday. The unusual movements include the climbing of cell doors, fighting, attempts to tamper with CCTV and other actions that are out of routine.
