Tawau police fire at vehicle of suspect
Tawau: Police had to fire at a vehicle driven by a break-in suspect Thursday afternoon in order to stop him.One of the four shots hit the front tyre causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle and it eventually stopped in a vegetable garden near Kukusan Camp along Jalan Kuhara.

He and his accomplice managed to flee but were later arrested in Kg Pisang at 5.30pm that same day.

Disclosing the drama, District Police Chief ACP Fadil Marsus said that a 52 year-old victim had lodged a report that his house at Taman Kuhara Indah had been broken into and a safety box containing documents such as birth certificates, passports and a marriage certificate was missing.

Acting on information, a police Strike Team managed to detect two suspects who were in a Nissan Sentra along Jalan Kuhara and later at Hill Top shoplot area in Jalan Utara.

Fadil said sometime later, the suspects drove towards the direction of a blockade set by police.

But instead of heeding a halt order, the driver stepped on the accelerator and tried to escape, forcing police to fire four shots at the tyres.

The two suspects aged 19 and 25 years were captured in Kg Pisang later following the arrest of a 51 year-old man who had come to Bandar Sri Indah police station at about 2.40pm to report about his missing car.

Fadil said the reported missing car was the same that was used by the two suspects. It was later discovered that the 51 year-old man was the stepfather of one of the two suspects.

"After interrogation, we found that he is the stepfather of the 25-year-old suspect. He informed us that they were hiding in Kg Pisang," he said, adding that a police raid in an unnumbered house where the two were hiding led to the recovery of two safety boxes.

He said initial investigation showed two of the three persons detained were tested to be positive of drugs.

He also said that police were looking for two more suspects who are still at large.
