Pledge to Chinese schools, temples
Kota Kinabalu: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman on Thursday assured the Chinese community in Sabah that the State Government will remain committed to the development of Chinese schools, places of worship and cultural activities. "We will continue to provide support and allocate financial assistance for Chinese schools and places of worship.

This is our promise to the Chinese community," he said during the Ang Pow Festival 2016 organised by the Federation of Chinese Associations Sabah (FCAS) at the Hakka Hall here.

Hence, he called on the Chinese community in Sabah to continue throwing their support behind the State government.

The Government, he said, strived to improve the quality of life among the people, apart from maintaining harmony and stability in Sabah.

"I believe that political stability, unity, harmony and tolerance are factors that will hasten the development process in Sabah," he added. Musa also presented a RM100,000 ang pau to FCAS on behalf of the State Government.

He urged the people to avoid engaging in any actions that could bring about a negative impact on unity and stability in Sabah.

"We will not be able to move forward with our aspirations to develop and bring more progress to this State if we are embroiled in issues that hamper unity efforts."

"Such actions are irresponsible and will bring about impacts that would deter us from improving the socio-economic status of the people," he said, adding that the Government's aim is to create more development for those who live in urban and rural areas.

Towards this end, he congratulated the organising committee for successfully staging the event.

"I believe that such programmes are not only capable of upholding and introducing Chinese culture to the people but they can also help promote the State's tourism industry.

"We are blessed as we are able to celebrate all festivities including Chinese New Year in an environment of good kinship and on a wide scale."

"We understand and we appreciate that in a society that is made up of various races, a strong spirit of unity acts as a core in ensuring the success of the country's development and well-being of the people," he said, stating that he hoped the Lunar New Year will bring with it more prosperity and harmony to the people and economic progress for Sabah.
