Kota Kinabalu: The Urban Community Development Committee (JKDB) for Inanam is keeping its fingers crossed that newly-appointed Mayor Datuk Yeo Boon Hai will continue with efforts and keep the promises of his predecessor to further improve physical conditions in the Inanam township, especially with regard to its cleanliness levels.Stressing confidence in Yeo's leadership, its Chairman Datuk Andrew C. E. Lim said they hoped he will give priority to tackling the perennial problem of cleanliness in the Tamu market.

"The appointment of Datuk Yeo Boon Hai as the new Mayor is apt as he has vast experience in dealing with the perennial issues in the city and the outskirts under the supervision of City Hall.

"I believe he will follow his own 'halatuju' and goals that he has set forth to achieve.

"As for Inanam, we hope the new Mayor will look for ways to fully address the low cleanliness level at the Tamu as many have complained of foul smell from the Tamu night market," he said.

Lim said this to reporters during a Chinese New Year (CNY) celebration at his residence along Jalan Kionsom in Inanam, here.

Yeo, former Inanam assemblyman Datuk Johnny Goh and community leaders were among the guests invited to Lim's CNY open house.

He said they also hoped Yeo would consider looking into re-organising the Tamu night market which he had highlighted to the previous Mayor Datuk Abidin Madingkir last year.

It was reported in May last year that Lim had briefed Madingkir that there is a big cleanliness problem at the Tamu night market in Inanam township where the drains are dirty and smelly as fishmongers and food traders do not clean up their respective areas.

In addition, Lim was also reported to have said that the Tamu premises was becoming an eye sore as well as a black spot where dubious peddlers can be seen selling cheap cigarettes near the site and the five-foot way, actively.

"JKDB for Inanam is counting on the new Mayor to continue and realise efforts, pledges and promises made by the previous Mayor in regards to further improve the cleanliness condition and beautification of Inanam.

"During our courtesy call to Madingkir in May last year, he had assured that landscaping of Inanam township will be upgraded," he said.

On the CNY celebration, Lim said many people in Inanam and nearby areas of various backgrounds attended his CNY Open House celebration which signified that the 1Malaysia spirit is still strong and practised in Sabah.
