Sabahan fireman displays brawn in 'hot' calendar

Kota Kinabalu: Being featured on what has been described by some as the hottest calendar in the country is an achievement on its own. The pictorial 2016 calendar shows buff firemen flexing their muscles in various illustrations of rescue operations, including gym sessions.

The men, who not only display brawn but also guts, are selected firefighters from Fire and Rescue Departments across the country and among them is Sabahan Rosliee Suyut, a Bajau from Kota Marudu.

"It is indeed something to be proud of especially to be among those selected to be featured in the calendar," said the 43-year-old father of five.

"This is the third year for me to have the privilege to be featured in the calendar," he said, adding that he was first featured in the 2014 issue and again last year.

He recalled receiving a call requesting him to attend a photo session in Terengganu.

"I had just completed a course in Kota Kinabalu and was supposed to fly back to Tawau where I am based," he said, adding that he changed his flight and flew to the peninsula to attend the photo session.

"Only me and another fellow Sabahan were featured in last year's issue and this year it's just me, the same like 2014," he added.

Rosliee,who has been in the Fire and Rescue Department since 1997, is also the reigning champion in the Fire and Rescue Department body building competition since it was first held two years ago.

"The role of a firefighter is more than just responding to fire and other emergencies, we also have the role to provide safety messages and I hope the tough image illustration would boost people's confidence that we are capable of doing our job as rescuers," he said.

It was reported in a national paper that the calendars have been printed only for internal circulation but had become popular with many calling the Fire and Rescue Departments for a copy.
