Kuching: Sarawak Public Health Assistant Minister Datuk Dr Jerip Susil has rubbished rumours he will contest the new seat of Serumbu and not Mambong in the 11th Sarawak election. He said the rumour was started by some quarters lobbying very hard in wanting to take Mambong as part of their seats.

"I want to make it clear here that I will be contesting in Mambong and not Serumbu," he said.

He was speaking to reporters after attending a ceremony involving the handing over of houses built under the Defence Ministry's Jiwa Murni Programme by the Minister, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Husein, at Kampung Sikog in Jalan Puncak Borneo, about 22km from here.

The Bengoh Assemblyman said he was seen in both Mambong and Serumbu all this while because he had to service both areas which are under the Bengoh constituency.

"That may be the reason why they (the quarters) felt that I am going to Serumbu because I covered for both but I have made it clear that when the new seat (Serumbu) came in, it was better to get a local leader to contest there," he added.

Jerip, who is United People's Party (UPP) Deputy President, said there were many well qualified local leaders in Serumbu who were dedicated, experienced and people-oriented.

"It would be better that Serumbu is represented by a local leader there," said Jerip, who is from Kampung Karu within the Mambong constituency.

It was reported in the local media that Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) was lobbying for the Mambong seat and its president, Tan Sri Dr James Masing Jemut had said his party was open to the offer.
