Kuching: DAP leaders Lim Kit Siang and Lim Guan Eng, as well as PKR President Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, may be banned from entering Sarawak, Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem said Saturday ahead of state elections. He said he will "cross the bridge" when they arrive at Sarawak.

Speaking to reporters after addressing the Sarawak Youth Forum at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) Saturday, he said from time to time, the State Government will come out with a list of people who will be prohibited entry into Sarawak.

"It is not true that we only ban opposition figures from entering, but we also ban religious bigots, extremists, as well as from Umno," he said.

He said he could not remember offhand the names of Umno members banned from Sarawak, but would check their names on the immigration blacklist.

When answering a question from a university student at the forum earlier, Adenan dismissed claims that the State Government only bans opposition figures from entering Sarawak.

"The claims are false," he said, adding that record shows that the State Government has issued entry bans against Perkasa Chief Datuk Ibrahim Ali and controversial Muslim convert columnist Dr Ridhuan Tee Abdullah.

He said the entry ban against religious bigots, extremists and troublemakers was meant to maintain the peace and religious harmony that Sarawakians have been enjoying for years.

"There is nothing political about the ban. It is to maintain peace and racial harmony," he added.

Kulai MP Teo Nie Ching from the DAP was stopped at the Bintulu Airport on Friday, while DAP mascot designer Ooi Leng Hah was told that he was not allowed to enter Sarawak at the Kuching International Airport Saturday morning.

Other opposition leaders who have been barred from entering the State included Tony Pua and Teresa Kok from the DAP, as well as PKR's Nurul Izzah Anwar, Chua Tian Chang and Rafizi Ramli.

The 82-seat Sarawak State Assembly will be dissolved on Monday to pave way for elections.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission (EC) says it has no power to prevent any individual or leaders of political parties from entering Sarawak prior to and during the 11th State Election.

Its Chairman Datuk Seri Mohd Hashim Abdullah said the authority to do so lay with the State Government and Immigration Department.

"If any political party member or individual had or is to be barred from entering Sarawak during the state election or at any time, it is not due to EC," he said in a statement.

He said EC would not interfere and would respect any decision made by other authorities in executing their respective responsibilities, in accordance with the law.
