GEORGE TOWN: The Malaysian Weightlifting Federation Friday confirmed two more doping cases involving national weightlifters. He said two national weightlifters failed their Sample A doping tests by the Anti-Doping Agency of Malaysia (Adamas).

MWF president Datuk Ong Poh Eng said MWF secretary Pang Siew Huat had notified the duo, who are currently undergoing training in China, on the matter.

He said they will be given two weeks to respond to why their A samples tested positive.

"We served the letters to them last night to inform on the results of the tests by Adamas but cannot disclose their names as they have yet to get their B samples tested," he said at a press conference here Friday.

He was accompanied by the Medical and Doping Advisor to MWF, Dr Terlochan Singh, and the National Sports Council's (MSN) Athletes Division director Jefri Ngadirin.

He said both athletes have the right to request for their sample B to be tested in the two-week period or opt to waive it.

"Pang is working on the arrangement to send both the athletes back to Malaysia and they should be arriving within this week," he said.

Dr Terlochan said both athletes tested positive for Anabolic Steroids by Adamas during out of competition testing.

"Athlete A tested positive on long term Methandienone while Athlete B on long term Nandrolone, with both steroids coming under Class S1 in the prohibited list at all times, whether in and out of competitions," he said.

He said both the athletes were sent for centralised training in China less than a month ago and that a maximum four-year ban will be imposed if they were found guilty. – Bernama
