style="text-transform: uppercase;">Kota Kinabalu: Kemabong Assemblyman Datuk Rubin Balang called on security authorities to give a detailed briefing to all State Legislative Assembly members on the threats of Sulu commanders in their respective constituencies. He said this was imperative to enable the assemblymen and their constituents to be more vigilant.

"Deputy Prime Minister-cum-Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Tun Hussein have recently disclosed the existence of a Sulu commander in every state seat in Sabah.

"This is a serious matter, which also means that the commanders have placed their machinery in every constituency.

"That is why the security authorities should give us a detailed briefing on the threats posed by the Sulu commanders," he said when debating the motion of thanks on the address by the Head of State at the State Legislative Assembly, here, Tuesday.

Sabah revenue hits RM6.97 billion: Hajiji says GRS State Government may see full term
Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Government continued its momentum in managing the economy in line with the commitment and spirit of the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) when it posted record high state revenue of RM6.973 billion last year.
On the Pan Borneo Highway project, Rubin urged the Government to include the 45km Kimanis-Keningau road in phase 1 of the project, to prevent frequent accidents and fatal mishaps.

"Based on an Infrastructure Development Ministry source, the Kimanis-Keningau road has been listed for upgrading in the third phase.

"There is a pressing need to include the Kimanis-Keningau road in Phase 1 so that it would be implemented immediately for the benefit of regular motorists plying the route and save people from fatal road accidents," he said.

In light of the global economic downturn that is also affecting Malaysia, Rubin proposed that the Government via the Agriculture Department help the fruit farmers by providing high quality seedlings so as to produce good quality fruits that could boost the State and nation's economy.

"With high quality fruits, the farmers would be able to penetrate the national and international markets that will generate a lucrative income."

Rubin, who is also Sabah Rubber Industry Board (LIGS) Chairman, said there is also a need to upgrade and repair the roads in the LIGS settlement schemes to be at par with the development in other schemes such as Mini Estet Sejahtera (Mesej).

According to him, the Mesej participants are enjoying better road connectivity although they are not required to repay the agency.

"The situation is different in LIGS scheme where the participants are required to pay back the Government."
