Kota Kinabalu: Sabah United Chinese Chamber of Commerce (SUCCC) hopes a win-win solution for all parties can be reached together with the authorities over the barter trade suspension issue.According to its President Datuk Seri Gan Sau Wah (pic), this was discussed in a meeting on Tuesday in response to the Government's decision to suspend barter trade activities between Sabah and neighbouring countries following the kidnap by Filipino gunmen of four Malaysian sailors off Sabah's Ligitan Island."SUCCC fully supports the Government's security policy and is thankful to Esscom and the various security agencies in the country for their service. We understand that the safety and security of the country is always a priority.ADVERTISEMENT "However, we also sympathise at the same time with local businesses and individuals involved in the barter trade whose means of earning an income has now stopped as a result of this turn of events."As such, we hope such measures imposed by the Government would be a temporary one until a more suitable solution or formula can be reached in which a 'win-win' solution can be attained."Gan said SUCCC in response has also appointed SUCCC Logistics and Transport Committee Deputy Chairman Wong Thart Sin (who has more than 20 years' experience in the barter trade business industry) as chairman of a sub-committee to look into the matter together with other sub-committee members from Sandakan, Kudat, Lahad Datu and Tawau to work together with the authorities in the hope of finding the best solution to this issue. He said this to reporters at a SUCCC press conference, here, Wednesday.ADVERTISEMENT Gan said the second thing that was discussed at the meeting was the position of the Putatan Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry which was affiliated to SUCCC."We received a letter on April 18 from the State Registrar of Societies (ROS) stating that the Putatan Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry was already deregistered. So there is no longer a chance of a reprieve in this case.

"We have discussed the matter and will follow the ROS decision and regulations regarding the case where an association has been deregistered. "As they are also members of SUCCC, with the decision from ROS, we as such have agreed to remove them from the SUCCC. "During the meeting someone asked if there was a need to issue a letter to this effect to which I replied there is no need as following the decision by the ROS, the association has already been deregistered."As such, we now hope our position on this matter is clear and any speculation over the issue can be put to rest." He said the third thing discussed was the issue of the Tuaran Chinese Chamber of Commerce which has been re-activated. "The Tuaran Chinese Chamber of Commerce was reinstated by ROS according to the letter we received from ROS.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

"So this was discussed at the meeting and we have made the decision to accept them back as an affiliate member of SUCCC." It is hoped that all 23 branches of SUCCC in the State will be diligent and careful in adhering to ROS regulations in the course of their activities, he added.
