Non-genuine chargers do not guarantee safety: ST

Kuala Lumpur: The Energy Commission (ST) warned manufacturers, importers, suppliers and vendors to market only genuine chargers bearing the label Standards and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia.(SIRIM-ST) or the original charger supplied with mobile phones that have the label Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).The EC, in a press statement, also reminded consumers that non-genuine chargers do not guarantee safety.ADVERTISEMENT Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

Users are also advised to refer to the safety procedures described in the user manual in the mobile phone manufacturers' package and not to use mobile phones while it's being charged.On Sunday, a housewife was killed at her house in Cheras when using a mobile phone that was being charged using a non-genuine charger, due to an electric shock from the electric leakage in the charger.
