Kuala Lumpur: There is no specific guideline for customers to provide photocopies of their identity cards (IC) to telco agents for prepaid cards when purchasing new prepaid mobile sim cards, says Communications and Multimedia Deputy Minister Datuk Jailani Johari. He said the original copy of individual ICs should be presented to the agents for verification purposes, only upon subscription to avoid fraudulent registration."It cannot be denied that some agents collect information from the ICs for certain purposes based on their company's standard operating procedures.
