BESUT: Infamous 'Sky Kingdom' cult leader Ayah Pin or his real name Arifin Muhamad, died at 8.30pm on Friday. Arifin, 74, passed away in the home of his third wife, Che Jaharah Awang, 56, in Kampung Batu 13, Hulu Besut, here, due to old age.

Che Jaharah said her husband had not been well since he returned to Kampung Batu 13 after fleeing from the authorities in 2005.

"Arifin had been suffering from various illnesses and lately his health had been unstable," she said when contacted Saturday.

The Terengganu Religious and Malay Customs Council Fatwa Committee had, in 1986, issued a ruling that Ayah Pin's beliefs and teachings were deviant and conflicting with Islam.

In August 2005, Besut Land Office officials destroyed Sky Kingdom's buildings, including the giant teapot and other key structures built by Ayah Pin in the Hulu Besut commune where he had over 150 followers.

Meanwhile, Besut Police Chief Supt Mohd Zamri Mohd Rowi confirmed receiving Arifin's death report through Pasir Akar Police Station on Saturday.

Arifin was laid to rest at Batu 13 Cemetery, Hulu Besut, here, Saturday.
