Car salesman fined for using fake number plates

Kuala Lumpur: A car salesman was fined RM15,000 by the Traffic Court here Tuesday after pleading guilty to three counts of using fake number plates on six cloned luxury cars two months ago. On the first count, Magistrate Noorul Fhaiez Mohd Nayan sentenced Zainuddin Mohd Noor, 48, to a RM2,000 fine in default two-month jail for possession and use of a Volvo S80 with a fake number plate.

On the second count, he was slapped with a RM5,000 fine in default three months' imprisonment for displaying the fake number plate on the car (Volvo S80).

He committed both offences at the Level 5 parking lot of the Terminal Bersepadu Selatan (TBS) building here at 1 am on Feb 17.

The man was also fined RM8,000 in default six months' jail for displaying fake number plates on five luxury cars, namely a Toyota Vios, Toyota Wish, Jaguar X-Type, Audi A4, and a Mini Cooper, on the same day and at the same place and time.

Zainuddin paid all the fines.

Prosecuting Officer Insp Hashimah Hashim appeared for the prosecution, while Zainuddin was unrepresented. –Bernama
